News Summary
In 2023 the Guoluo Youth Wind Orchestra was founded at Guoluo Xining National Middle School. It is the very first Tibetan youth wind orchestra in China. The group grew out of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s “Cultural‑Border Enrichment” program, which began working with minority artists in Guoluo in 2020. The aim of the program is to bring arts education into high‑altitude schools and local communities.
Today the orchestra has roughly one hundred members, and about seventy percent of them come from herding families. The ensemble not only gives students the chance to learn instruments and play together, it also opens new room for growth in discipline, teamwork and self‑expression, enriching school life and expanding future possibilities.
